The Best Way to Help Over the Holidays

As the holiday season rolls in, we've heard from many of you that you're looking for ways to support our guests at Miriam's Kitchen.   We are grateful to have such a generous community!  If you're trying to find unique ways to celebrate the holidays and give back, here are just a few ideas of ways you can help our guests.

Holiday Parties
Parties are great, but they're even better when they make a difference!  Celebrate the holidays with friends and colleagues while hosting a fundraiser to benefit our guests. Our Ernst & Young volunteer team is putting together a staff cookbook and the profits will come to Miriam's, and our TetraTech volunteer team is hosting a Chili Cook Off this week to raise money for our guests. You can also host a clothing and food drive for our homeless guests (we can even give you a top 5 list of items we need).

Gift Ideas
Make a donation to Miriam’s Kitchen in honor of your loved ones or even better, sponsor a full meal ($1,500) and bring your whole family or work team for a shift at Miriam’s Kitchen.

Perhaps it has been your New Year’s resolution to get more involved?  Well we can certainly help with that! Join us to volunteer with our case management team, in our kitchen, or you can even volunteer at home by making sandwiches for our guests for our weekly Wednesday Cafe.

Involving your kids
For safety reasons, we cannot have anyone under 16 years old volunteer, but that doesn’t mean your little ones can’t do something for our guests this holiday season. Encourage them to organize drives in their schools - collect books, art supplies, coffee mugs and even hot chocolate supplies (mini-marshmallows, chocolate syrup, etc.).

Take Action with Advocacy
Share your voice!  Join our Advocacy team on Wednesday, December 12th from 6:30-8pm for our Advocacy Action Series and on December 21st for Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day at 12pm at New York Avenue Presbyterian Church.

Thank you for thinking of our homeless guests this holiday season, and all year round.  If you’re interested in any of these opportunities to get involved, please contact Jen at

We hope to see you soon!
