Our Favorite Holiday Gifts

Giving is a very personal act. Whether from an individual, company or foundation, the gifts we receive here at Miriam’s Kitchen often reflect the donor’s personality.

What we like so much about the holidays (other than the food, of course) is the unique ways in which people choose to give gifts.

Here are a few of the most creative gifts making a difference in our guests' lives this year:

Monster.com made a $5,000 donation instead of giving gift baskets to their employees this year.

Airbnb hosted a holiday clothing and toiletry drive at Teaism.

Dr. Milliron and Dr. Jani (who care for the teeth of many of our staff) donated seven huge boxes of toothpaste to ensure our guests have healthy teeth this winter.

Whole Foods Market Foggy Bottom is hosting a 5% Day benefitting Miriam's Kitchen on Wednesday, December 21st. We'll receive 5% of total sales on the 21st, in addition to any of our wish list items purchased and donated at the store. They also donated local turkeys for our Thanksgiving meal, hundreds of broths for our winter soups, and thousands of pounds of ingredients for our kitchen.

Latham and Watkins hosted a Thanksgiving luncheon for their employees and raised more than $55,000 for Miriam’s Kitchen through their raffle.

BaseCamp Design is selling a yeti t-shirt with proceeds going to Miriam’s Kitchen, and collecting clothing and toiletries for our guests.

Twice as Warm donated 36 warm winter hats for our guests with the support of their customers.

A local dentist made a $500 donation in honor of his friends and colleagues.

Hickok Cole Architects donated art supplies leftover from their We Care holiday tote bag-making project.

A local business made a $250 donation and purchased an apron for their boss who is a Miriam’s Kitchen volunteer.

A Miriam’s Kitchen volunteer made a $100 donation in honor of his family for Hanukkah.

A Miriam's Kitchen volunteer donated nine sleeping bags to ensure our guests stay warm on the streets this winter.

Many, many more of you have given to Miriam’s Kitchen this holiday season, and we’re thankful for each and every one of the gifts we’ve received.

Your support means the world to us and makes a tremendous difference in the lives of our guests.

Happy holidays from all of us at Miriam’s Kitchen.
