Services and Programs Meet the Staff Board of Directors

In addition to providing a hot, nutritious meal in a supportive environment, Miriam's Kitchen offers the following programs and social services to its guests.

Programs
 

Breakfast Program

  • Every weekday from 6:30 to 8:00 a.m. Miriam’s Kitchen is open for breakfast.  We are open Monday through Friday, including holidays and despite weather conditions.
  • Led by our Director of Kitchen Operations and Volunteer Services, Steve Badt, our volunteer shifts help to prepare and serve meals to guests each day.   We provide consistent homemade menus that are delicious, and nutritionally-balanced.
 

Case Management Program  

  • Our Case Management team consists of the Deputy Director, one Senior Case Manager, and two Case Managers.
  • Some of the services offered are:
  • Assistance with obtaining identification
  • Assistance looking for housing
  • Providing tokens for transportation to go to documented job, legal, or medical appointments
  • Clothing
  • Referrals to addiction treatment and mental health programs
  • Mailing address and voicemail system.
 

Arnold's Place Transitional Housing Program

  • Arnold’s Place provides four guests with a stable living environment for up to 24 months, while they continue to work with Case Managers to find permanent solutions to employment and housing issues. 
  • This program opened in October 2003.
 

After-Breakfast Program

  • Miriam’s provides creative engagement programs for our guests, including art, poetry, and writing.  The art programs are organized by an Art Therapy Intern from George Washington University.  Writing groups are facilitated by Miriam's Kitchen staff, volunteers from the community, and volunteers from George Washington University.
  • The groups provide an outlet for creative expression while building trusting relationships with volunteers and staff.

 

Social Services

During Breakfast:  6:30-8:00 a.m. every weekday

Monday - Dr. Steve, Psychiatrist

Wednesday - Lawyers from the Washington Legal Clinic for the Homeless (weekly)

Thursday - Outreach to veterans

Friday - Unity Health Care medical clinic (weekly)

 

Case Management:  6:30-9:45 a.m. every weekday

Monday through Friday - Help with ID cards, toiletries, referrals, and bus tokens for documented appointments.

 

After Breakfast Groups: 8:15-9:45 every weekday

Monday - Art, haircuts, poetry

Tuesday - Art, writing

Wednesday - Art, writing, crafts and cardmaking

Thursday - Art, Miriam's Dialog, haircuts

Friday - Art, crafts and card making, writing
