We are always open to ideas for ways that you can get involved, but here are a few ideas to get you started:
Help Serve Breakfast Breakfast volunteers help prepare and serve a healthy meal to our guests. Shift: Monday - Friday, 6 - 8:15 am
Help Serve Lunch Lunch volunteers join us for Miriam's Cafe on Wednesdays, helping to serve lunch, pour drinks, and distribute door prizes. Shift: Wednesdays, 11:30 am - 1:30 pm
Help Serve Dinner Dinner volunteers help prepare and serve a healthy meal to our guests. Shift: Monday - Friday, 4 - 6:30 pm
Help Prepare Dinner Volunteers help prepare meals for our dinner service. Shifts: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 12 - 2 pm
Help our Case Managers Volunteers help sort clothes, hand out toiletries, and interact with our guests. Shifts: Monday - Friday, 6:20 - 8:30 am and 4:30 - 6 pm

Q: What kind of volunteers are you looking for?
A: We're looking for reliable volunteers who can commit to joining us once a month, preferably on a long-term basis.
Q: What should I do first if I want to volunteer at Miriam's Kitchen?
A: Please email our Manager of Volunteer Engagement, Jennifer Dean, at email@example.com. Jennifer will be able to let you know which volunteer opportunities are currently open and what to do next (a mandatory volunteer orientation will likely be your next stop.)
Q: What should I wear when I volunteer?
A: Please wear comfortable clothing! Closed-toe shoes, long pants and a t-shirt/long-sleeve shirt are required. For your safety, sandals, shorts, skirts, dresses and tank tops are not allowed. If you're working in our kitchen, you'll need to have something covering your head. Feel free to bring a hat of your own, or use one of our hair nets.
Q: Where should I go when I arrive at Miriam's Kitchen for my volunteer shift?
A: We're located at the corner of 24th and G Streets NW, and just a few blocks from the Foggy Bottom metro stop. We have limited parking for your car or bike (located to the right of the main entrance). Whether you are driving, biking, walking or flying to your volunteer shift, please enter through the kitchen door at the bottom of our garage (please don't use our guest entrance to the left of the main entrance).
Q: How do I schedule a group to volunteer?
A: Depending on the size of your group, we may not be able to accomodate you (15 volunteers is the most we can accomodate at any one time). Please contact Jennifer Dean at firstname.lastname@example.org to inquire about group volunteering.
Q: Can I volunteer at Miriam's Kitchen on the weekends?
A: Miriam's Kitchen is closed on Saturdays and Sundays, so volunteer opportunities are not available at our location on the weekend. However, you can volunteer on our behalf at the Capital Area Food Bank, or you can join the Grate Patrol to deliver breakfast to homeless men and women on Saturdays and Sundays at 5:45 am. Q: Do you have volunteer opportunities for children?
A: For safety reasons, children under the age of 21 are not allowed to volunteer at Miriam's Kitchen. However, we do have volunteer opportunities children can do at home that will make just as big of an impact!
•Make & deliver peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for our Wednesday Café (5th Wednesdays of the month only).
•Make & deliver healthy side dishes (fruit salad, veggies & dip, pitas & hummus, etc…) for our Wednesday Café (any Wednesday).
•Collect art supplies for our guests to use in Miriam's Studio.
•Collect toiletries and clothing for our guests.
