Volunteer Appreciation Week Event Preview
The 3rd week in April is National Volunteer Appreciation Week and we're busy preparing a fun week of events to celebrate you. (Of course, we hope you know that we appreciate you year-round).
Each day, we feel the energy, compassion, dedication and fun that you bring to Miriam's Kitchen. That's why we're so excited to have a week dedicated just to celebrating you.
But, we're not the only ones who think you're great. Our guests do too: 'They must receive [volunteer] training in heartwarming! They're all 10s in my book!'
We hope you'll join us for at least one of the fun events we're planning to thank you for your invaluable contributions to Miriam's Kitchen:
Tuesday, April 17th: 5:45 - 8 pm
Kennedy Center, Writing Class & Pizza Party!
Join Miriam's Kitchen and our guests at the Kennedy Center to enjoy a performance at Millennium Stage. Following the performance, we'll have a make-your-own-pizza party and gather together for a writing class hosted by our talented volunteer writing instructors. This is a fun way to see how we run writing classes for our guests each day!
Wednesday, April 18th: 6:30 - 8 pm
Yoga & Ice Cream Party
We know fitting volunteering into an already hectic schedule can be a bit daunting. Join us at Miriam's Kitchen to restore your sanity during an hour-long yoga class. Afterwards, indulge your cravings in our make-your-own-sundae bar!
Thursday, April 19th: 6 - 10 pm
Bottoms Up! Happy Hour at Meridian Pint
Come join the fun at our annual Volunteer Appreciation Happy Hour. Bring a new pair of men's underwear for our guests and you'll receive a tasty treat from our Miriam's Kitchen baking team. (Trust us, you'll want to bring underwear...)
Friday, April 20th: 7 - 9 pm
Your Hips Don't Lie
We know you like to get your groove on in the kitchen, and here's your chance to take salsa dancing lessons from the pros! We'll be dancing at Lima Bar and Lounge, and if you bring your hips, we'll make sure you leave shakin' it like Shakira.
Saturday, April 21st: 11 am - 5 pm
Down on the Farm with MK
Put on your overalls and plan to get a little dirty as we volunteer at Clagett Farm (a generous donor to MK) and have a private BBQ! Clagett Farm is located in Upper Marlboro, MD so we'll plan some carpools for you city slickers. Families welcome!
Sunday, April 22nd: 11 am - 3 pm
Whiskey Bottling at Catoctin Creek Distillery
We're doing it again! Learn how to bottle, label and of course enjoy, whiskey! We'll have lunch and a tour of the organic distillery before we learn the ins and outs of the magic 'whiskey cow.' We'll carpool out to the distillery in Purcellville, VA, but spots are limited!
Saturday, May 19th: 11 am - 5 pm
Let Us Wine & Dine You
We're planning our first-ever wine tour with Reston Limousine. Don't miss out on a day in Loudoun County, VA full of wine tastings, a picnic lunch and your very own Miriam's Kitchen wine glass! Cost will be approximately $85 per person, but please RSVP by April 6th so we can make final arrangements.
And because we love you so much, we're also offering our favorite volunteers discounted tickets for 100 Bowls of Compassion! After you've recovered from the excitement of Volunteer Appreciation Week, join us on May 10th from 6-9:30 pm at the National Building Museum for our favorite gala of the year. You won't want to miss it.
We hope you'll join us at one or all of these fun events! Friends and family are welcome at most events when space is available. Please RSVP to Ashley Lawson to confirm your spot.
