Last week, nearly 300 people joined us at the historic Howard Theatre to celebrate the Miriam’s Kitchen 2023 Gala! With the help of our generous MK community, we raised more than $650,000 toward our shared goal of ending chronic homelessness in DC. Some highlights from the night include:
Thank you to everyone who generously donated via our online silent auction! We also got to auction off a few items live with our attendees, including being a Critic for a Night with Tom Sietsema and dinner with our own Executive Chef Cheryl!
We also had the pleasure of honoring Miss Sheila White as our 2023 Change Honoree! Miss Sheila shared her incredible story from experiencing homelessness to becoming an anti-homelessness advocate, one that continues to inspire our work and fuel our mission.
But the magic didn’t end there. In collaboration with the University of the District of Columbia, we honored Sheila with her dream “cap and gown” moment to recognize her stellar achievement of earning two associates degrees during the pandemic, while experiencing homelessness.
The evening concluded with a wonderful performance from the band Round Midnight!
You can watch all these special moments, including Sheila’s amazing speech, on the Miriam’s Kitchen YouTube channel. You can also see all the best photos from the night in our gala photo album on the MK website.
There is still time to help us meet the incredibly generous match from our board and former board members made in recognition of 40 years of Miriam’s Kitchen! Help us meet the match here.
We are so grateful for our Miriam’s Kitchen community. Your support over the past 40 years has helped us evolve from serving meals to being a leader in the fight to end homelessness in DC. Thank you for your continued support, and stay connected with Miriam’s Kitchen to see what’s next in the fight to end chronic homelessness in DC!
