A Strong Step Forward For Ending Chronic Homelessness in D.C.

March 23, 2022

Thanks to our collective advocacy, D.C.’s Fiscal Year 2023 budget proposal is taking another strong step forward to ending chronic homelessness in Washington, D.C.!

The recently released budget proposal from Mayor Bowser currently funds the entire Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) ask by The Way Home Campaign, led by Miriam’s Kitchen and comprised of 110 organizations and 7,000 individual partners. This means that 500 individuals who have experienced homelessness and significant health concerns for years will now have the housing they need to thrive.

As we celebrate Mayor Bowser’s funding of housing to end chronic homelessness, we must also note the lack of housing investments for individuals and families not experiencing chronic homelessness. Please read our official statement for more details and context surrounding the Mayor’s budget proposal and what it means for our city.

We also want to invite you to our upcoming virtual mayoral candidate forum – moderated by nationally renowned speaker and advocate for the homeless, Dana White – to discuss priorities around support for D.C.’s unhoused citizens. For more information, or to RSVP, please click here.
