Over the past 6 months, our advocacy team has been working tirelessly, along with our partners, to ensure that DC’s budget prioritizes investments in ending chronic homelessness. Last week, Mayor Bowser finally released her proposed budget for fiscal year 2022 (the FY22 fiscal year will start this coming October 2021 and run through September 2022). Thank you to all of you who took action through The Way Home Campaign, an MK-led movement to end long-term homelessness in the District, to support this effort!
While the Mayor’s budget is not final, it represents the Administration’s priorities and sets the tone for what will likely be in the final budget, which needs to be approved and voted on by the DC Council later this summer.
Mayor Bowser’s proposed budget will end chronic homelessness for up to 758 individuals and 347 families through Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH).
Since the DC Council can (and will) make changes to the budget in the coming months, this marks a turning point in our advocacy where we shift our attention from the Mayor to the Council. We will call on them to meet the remaining needs of our neighbors experiencing homelessness, and we need your help!
