Miriam’s Kitchen Joins Volunteers for the 2022 DC PIT Count

January 26, 2022

Miriam’s Kitchen is proud to participate in tonight’s Point in Time Count. Tonight, we will join volunteers committed to ending homelessness for DC’s annual unsheltered census.

The PIT is a national count that attempts to determine how many households experience literal homelessness on a certain night. Information gathered tonight is one method of many to gather data about homelessness in DC. Already, the data is clear: housing ends homelessness and there simply isn’t enough deeply affordable housing, like Permanent Supportive Housing, for everybody who needs it. Mayor Bowser must use her upcoming budget to ensure that every person counted during the PIT has the housing they need to thrive.

Every person counted tonight must remind us of the urgent need to end homelessness. As such, we call on Mayor Bowser and all relevant parties to remove red tape and barriers to housing, so that by the time we do the PIT next year, DC will see a reduction in homelessness that corresponds to recent investments.

You can help us ensure that tonight’s data is transformed into policies and budgets that end homelessness, by joining The Way Home Campaign, at www.thewayhomedc.org.
