This November, Miriam’s Kitchen will join organizations around the country in commemorating Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week. Held from November 12-20, 2022, HH Awareness Week brings together people from across the country to draw attention to the problems of hunger and homelessness. Miriam’s Kitchen will commemorate the week with a series of events starting on Saturday, Nov. 12.
The Run 4 MK
Our week of events kicks off on Saturday with our Run 4 MK event. Join the MK community as we take strides to end chronic homelessness with a scenic run alongside the historic C&O Canal. We’ll also celebrate Veterans Day during the run with a special tribute to our nation’s heroes. Even if you don’t want to run, there are plenty of opportunities to participate! Visit our Run 4 MK event page for more details.
Stepping Up Our Game: Are We Ready to End Chronic Homelessness in DC?
The week continues Wednesday, Nov. 16 with our virtual panel, “Stepping Up Our Game: Are We Ready to End Chronic Homelessness in DC?” Join MK, government, and community leaders as we discuss what’s next in the fight to end chronic homelessness in DC. Panelists include leaders from Miriam’s Kitchen, the People for Fairness Coalition and the D.C. Department for Human Services. Visit our event page for more details.
GuestFest 2022!
Our next event during Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week is one of our favorites! Our second annual GuestFest event will take place on Thursday, Nov. 17. Our guests are at the center of everything we do, and we’re excited that we get the chance to celebrate our guests for this event. This event is only for MK guests, but you can still participate by joining our upcoming coat drive or donating to our cause to ensure our guests have what they need as we approach the winter season! Stay tuned for more information.
Cocktails & Cinema: A Documentary Screening and Networking Happy Hour Event
The week’s events conclude with a networking Happy Hour on Friday, Nov. 18. Join us as we screen an award-winning short film that chronicles the journey of a former MK guest who is now, a fierce local anti-homelessness advocate. Immediately following the film, we’ll commence with a networking happy hour complete with tasty appetizers and cocktails!
MK proudly serves as a trusted resource for those experiencing homelessness in Washington, D.C. We’re excited at this opportunity to grow our community and build up support for housing justice. MK’s Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week activities are part of our annual More Than a Meal campaign. For more information, please email nikki.jafari@miriamskitchen.org.
